BRIDGEWATER MUSIC FESTIVAL ELIGIBILITY
1. The Bridgewater Music Festival is open only to students who are residents of or who are studying in
Lunenburg County. In the case of an ensemble or group the majority (51%) of members must study or reside
in Lunenbury County. Musicians residing outside Lunenburg County may perform non-competitively in the
Festival and will receive the adjudicator’s remarks. (No mark will be given). The performer will not be
eligible for any award or prize.
2. The competition shall be open to amateurs only. For the purpose of the Festival, an amateur is defined as
follows: Any person whose principal means of livelihood is not obtained from the performance of music
in the particular category in which he or she is competing, even though from time to time such persons have
occasionally received remuneration for musical services rendered.
3. Competitors in choirs and bands must be bona fide members of their respective
organizations.
4. Conductors may be either amateur or professional. Conductors must not sing with their Choral Group nor play with the Orchestra or Band except in Open Classes.
5. In classes where an age limit is set, the competitor must not be over the stated age on January 1st of the year
of the forthcoming Festival.
6. In all Solo Classes, participants six years of age and under must enter a class non-competitively.
Non-competitive performances receive only the adjudicator’s remarks.
7. Competitors may enter one class per category. For example: Competitors entering the Romantic Class in
piano, may enter only one class in that category. In Ungraded Classes, Competitors may enter at or above
their level.
8. Competitors (except for teachers) may not enter more than once in any duet or trioclass.
